European Award »Our Waters«

The Minister of Environment of Lower Saxony Hans-Heinrich Sander and the Kommunale Umwelt-AktioN U.A.N. announced, under the patronage of Stavros Dimas, member of the European Commission, the European Award "Our Waters - cost-effective measures to implement the water framework directive". Ideas on how to achieve the good status of water should be gathered European-wide, evaluated and published on the internet. By seeking the best measures to improve the water locally, the creativity of Europe can be used to establish a network of interesting waters projects.
All water users and all those interested in water protection were requested to submit measures and ideas for achieving good status required of our waters. Feasible ideas as well as already partly or completely implemented measures could be submitted. Ecological, economic and social aspects should be taken into account on equal terms. You find more information in the tender documents. The contributions could be submitted until 30th March 2007 by a form. Altogether 44 contributions have been submitted which are published >> here. |

| The City of Wolfsburg has won the award with its contribution "Renaturation of a watercourse nearby a residential area". The award ceremony took place on 14th April 2008. There, the City of Wolfsburg received the "local environmental award" of the Kommunale Umwelt-AktioN U.A.N. and the prize money provided by the foundation IntEF-U.A.N.
